LinkedIn delivering APIs to developers

I say it's about time! Leading professional social network and infamous walled garden 2.0 LinkedIn will finally let its users data out of the cage. It's going to happen within the next 9 months, Dan Farber reports. Although maybe a bit late (why another 9 months?) and definitely in response to competitor Facebook's rapid growth and general acclaim after doing the same, they've definitely made the right decision. Let's hope all the data will be exposed so that some extremely cool mashup stuff becomes possible.

Update 28-06-7: there's a LinkedIn IPO coming soon, which explains the moves I described above.

World problems caused by poor self-image

My friend Kris (thanks Kris!) pointed me in the direction of the excellent animated television series Family Guy. I've just begun watching the first season and my favorite character so far is Stewie, the youngest son of the family who's ambitions include world dominion and matricide. Other funny moments can be found here.

Desktop Tower Defense - my strategy

Attention to all Warcraft III-veterans out there that aren't already hooked on Desktop Tower Defense ! This incredibly addictive game has recently been upgraded with a number of new features, that make it even stickier and more fun to play. Coverage on this free ad supported game that gets 20 million pageviews a month can be found here and here.

I particularly like the new Boost Tower, which I immediately incorporated into my game strategy. This screenshot was taken just before I got beaten by a horde of flying critters. I decided to add a few more Swarm Towers the next play ;-)

Restless Natives: back to the 80s

For me, YouTube is the new MTV. Whenever I have some time to kill, I set out to find and watch interesting music videos. A few days ago I stumbled upon this clip from 'Restless Natives', a Scottish film from 1985 I remembered from my youth. The film is quite funny and follows the adventures of two young men robbing tourist coaches in the highlands, disguised as a clown and a wolf-man. Because they're such nice guys, they become local folk heroes.

More than the movie in itself, I love the great soundtrack by Big Country. The movie title song featured in the clip, I believe, is one of the best songs they ever made. In 1998 the soundtrack became available on the Big Country collection Restless Natives & Rarities. The CD version is hard to find, but the music can be found at the iTunes store. Recommended!

And because I can't help it, i'll end with another great song from the 90s (already retro when it was released in 1993 :-)): Pulp with Babies. Thank you, YouTube!
