On Bill Hicks, Dinosaurs and Creationists
Posted 09 May 2007 01:16 by Kristof Michiels
I had to think of the late and great Bill Hicks when I stumbled upon these posts about the new Creationist Museum in Petersburg Kentucky. Hicks argued that dinosaurs pose one hell of a problem for fundamentalist Christians, who believe the world is just a mere twelve thousand years old (calculation based on the lifespans of all the protagonists mentioned in the bible). Why then, asks Hicks, aren't dinosaurs mentioned in the holy scripture (watch the movie below for other extremely funny arguments).
But now, it seems, creationists finally found answers to the questions Hicks has raised. The museum provides a 'reconstruction' of ancient people living next to dinos in perfect harmony. An example: Adam and Eve swimming in a river with giant reptiles. And what about the dino problem on Noah's ark? It seems Noah only took smaller baby dinosaurs, so that they would fit into the vessel. The museum brings the ark to life with dinos sitting next to bears and cows inside the ship. And brace yourself for the best joke of all: before Adam and Eve were expelled from paradise all of the dinosaurs were peaceful plant-eaters, using their sharp teeth to open coconuts...
That still doesn't answer for the lack of dino spottings in the bible though ;-) And that leaves Bill's main argument still standing. Oh how sad it is that Hicks isn't among us anymore. I would love to hear him rant about the current state of the world. And since we are digging up some Bill Hicks pearls anyway: watch his suggestions for those of you in advertising and marketing. Many more unsurpassed Hicks-stuff on YouTube.
